A Tweeted History of Minton (WHoM:12)

Today marks the 12th instalment of our #WadsworthHistoryofMinton round-up, where we bring together a week’s worth of tweets from the Archive’s “Minton” manuscript – SD 1705/MS4520 – for you to peruse. In this latest collection of snippets we reach Chapter 5 and with it we’re given a proper introduction to Colin Minton Campbell. There’s also mention of the 1862 Exhibition – not the 1861 Exhibition as we mistakenly wrote in tweet no. 134!* – and more on the creation of the art director role and Léon Arnoux. Read on to get up to speed…

*1861 is mentioned in the manuscript as being the original planned year for the exhibition, marking a decade since the Great Exhibition. However, “on account of the disturbed state of Europe” it was delayed to 1862 instead.
